Allan’s kiwis, plums and other delights
Although Allan Christensen no longer farms full-time, we are thankful he has chosen to keep his greenhouse and a small part of his farm as a hobby. We wouldn’t want to be without Allan, especially as he supplies the indispensable kiwis to Syttende’s kitchen. Allan is a very special and innovative person, he heard his farm, which is located in Fynshav on the island of Als, was located at the same latitude as the Californian town of San Francisco in California. So, he thought it must be easy to grow some kiwis. Although the latitude turned out not to be not quite right, that didn’t stop Allan from growing the finest little kiwis in his greenhouse.
Allan’s fields are stretches all the way down to Lillebælt Bridge, so the local climate gives his crops extra taste and vigour. We use Allan’s quinces, rhubarb, berries and plums in a range of dishes and also in Syttende’s juice menu. We’ve developed a particular love affair with the variety of plums called TipTop plum and these beautiful plums truly live up to their name.
